lets talk about stickers
Stickers, they’re a bit like marmite, some people love them, some people hate them. And then there are those of us who like them alot… sticker hoarders, gremlins, and goblins. Essentially we turn into Gollum from Lord of the Rings when stickers are involved.
Well no matter how you feel about stickers, they are one of the best ways to support artists and small businesses if you’re on a budget! For me, I often buy stickers from an artist if I love their artwork but can’t afford a print or anything larger. I'm still supporting them by engaging and buying something, but in a way that’s better suited to my finances (plus I’m a bit of a hoarder for stickers).
So that means you have a collection of stickers, and if you're anything like me I can't commit to putting them anywhere so they are just in little piles everywhere around the house. If you also have sticker commitment issues like me then I have some ideas to finally put those stickers to use!
Device covers: A tried and true method, often everyone’s go-to, so you can't really go wrong with it. I have stickers over just about every device I own. My laptop though is slowly getting full so I either have to decide whether to take some off or overlap. It’s all personal preference if you want to sticker bomb it all or place a few here and there.
For example here is my laptop vs my brother’s laptop
Water bottles: This is essentially the same as laptop covers, a good place to put stickers you wanna see everyday, especially if they encourage hydration!
I would usually recommend using a waterproof sticker for these, either a coated sticker or a vinyl one will hold up to the washing and day to day activities.
Notebooks/ journals/ sketchbooks: No matter what you use notebooks for, a sticker will always be a happy addition. Whether you have a notebook for work, education or to just be organised, a sticker is a good way to remind yourself to have some fun, or to inspire you if even for a moment. My old sketchbooks were always covered in stickers, artists I liked, phrases or just a goofy little guy to spark some inspiration whenever I was stuck.
These next two are a little bit less conventional but if you take stickers seriously I’d give it a read.
Wall collections:
Now this one could be controversial depending on how much of a sticker purist you are. I often put stickers up on my wall around my desk and workspace. But I don’t use their adhesive backs, I use blu tack so that I can remove them (and not damage the wall). Now technically the sticker is usually stuck with its sticky back but if they are on display brightening a space and bringing joy then that's all that matters.
If you don't want to or can't put them on the wall directly they can be put on a pinboard either with their sticky back or tack, it will have the same effect!
Sticker book collection:
Now this may seem like I’m self promoting here (because I am), but I happen to make and sell a book designed to house sticker collections. The pages are made from a special coated paper so that you can put the sticker on it and remove it as many times as you would like, but it won't lose its stickiness. These are perfect for stickers that you want to keep safe and all together. Originally made for kids, as a good way to save the furniture from being sticker bombed,I use mine to keep some of my favourite stickers safe and together in little collections.
So Stickers, love them or hate them, they are always going to be around as long as there are places to stick them (and maybe even when there isn't). They are the perfect little masterpieces of art too good to keep hidden away in little piles so let's stick them where they can be truly appreciated!
